The situation
dekstech is a boutique Shopify development agency in the United States. Danny worked with them as a fractional lead Shopify developer and technical product manager across their client base.
Non-compete agreements limit how much of that work we can describe, so we will highlight one project.

The project
One of dekstech's clients is a music production software company that licenses its products through serial numbers. They were distributing and managing those serial numbers on a third-party platform, and the platform's limitations had become the ceiling on how they could sell.
Danny built them a custom serial number distributor and manager, serving both the company's admins and the company's own customers, who can now manage their serial numbers themselves.
The build combined several moving parts:
- Shopify's APIs, and the GraphQL endpoints specifically, to connect the system to products
- A dedicated database for generated serial numbers
- Third-party API calls out to their existing serial number platforms, so nothing already issued was stranded
- A responsive frontend in Next.js, plus an admin dashboard for internal use
The result
A fully functional custom serial number management system, built for a Shopify store and running in production. The licensing workflow now belongs to the client rather than to a third-party tool that dictated the terms.
