The situation
Geurwolkje is an established DTC aromatherapy brand selling on Shopify. When they came to us, the store was still on Shopify 1.0, and the age was starting to show. Sections were rigid, the merchandising team was boxed in by what the old theme allowed, and features had begun to break as the platform moved on without them.
They needed the store brought onto Shopify 2.0 without losing the custom work they had paid for over the years.
What we built
We migrated the storefront to Shopify 2.0 and redesigned it along the way, so the brand came out of the project looking current rather than merely functional.
The migration itself was the careful part:
- Ported every custom section and snippet from the legacy theme and rebuilt them against the 2.0 architecture
- Verified that all embedded third-party apps survived the move, including payment processing, reviews, and chat
- Migrated the landing pages the team had built in GemPages and reworked them to sit correctly inside the new theme
With the foundation in place, we added the conversion work the old theme could not support. Custom USP and payment-processor elements now sit on the product page, where the reassurance actually matters.

We also built custom upsell sections for related products, and a custom megamenu that the theme never shipped with.

The result
Geurwolkje now runs a modern, responsive Shopify 2.0 theme, and the performance gap between the old store and the new one is not subtle.
- Cumulative Layout Shift: 2.1 to 0.1 on desktop, 1.9 to 0 on mobile
- Largest Contentful Paint: 3.7s to 1.4s on desktop, 2.8s to 1.2s on mobile
- Core Web Vitals assessment now passes on both desktop and mobile in field data
Where it stands today
We still maintain the site. That covers third-party app upkeep, new sections and snippets as the brand grows, and consultative work such as keeping them current with regional compliance requirements like GDPR. It is an ongoing engagement rather than a project that ended at launch.
Ownership and clarity, from people who'd know.
